I didn't mention it, because it's specific to one city, but it is still helpful to know. The U of A tip applies to any university or college campus, I'm sure, so that's another good tip. Another source is to go to U of A after the school closes for the summer and drive around the alleys. Many foreign exchange students throw out furniture after they leave.
